Player Profile

Brian Winton was a strong robust defender who was born in Apollo Bay but recruited to Richmond from Wentworth. One of eight brothers, he was the only one to play League football. He topped the Under 19 goalkicking list in 1982 while with the Tigers and played 10 senior games in 1983.

Although recruited as a replacement full-forward when Paul Salmon was injured, he played his best games at full-back in 1987 as his pace enabled him to often dash downfield to clear the ball. However, he sometimes lacked steadiness and was unable to win a permanent place in the team.

Winton transferred to St Kilda in 1989, where he played five games and kicked four goals.

After leaving St Kilda he played for VFA clubs Prahran and then Sandringham. He then coahed Cheltenham from 1996 to 1999.
