Sam Weideman is the son of Collingwood player, Mark Weideman, and grandson of Collingwood premiership captain, Murray.
He had a successful junior career before being drafted by Melbourne with pick 9 in the 2015 National Draft. He joined a unique club when he scored a goal with his first kick in AFL football.
He played 59 games for Melbourne, mainly as a key forward, and kicked 62 goals.
Following the conclusion of the 2022 AFL Season, Weideman was traded to Essendon Football Club, from Melbourne Football Club, in search of more opportunities as a key forward. Weideman played 17 games over two seasons for Essendon before being delisted at the end of the 2024 Season.
After his delisting, he returned to his junior club, Vermont, in the Eastern League.
