Alec Waterman was originally drafted by the West Coast Eagles in 2014 as a father/son selection, but did not play a senior game with the club. His father, Chris Waterman, played 177 games for the Eagles and won two premierships.
He had an impressive season with Claremont in the WAFL in 2020 where he won the club's best and fairest award and was the club and league's leading goalkicker.
He was signed by Essendon in the pre- season supplemental draft in 2021.
Alec Waterman played his debut game against St Kilda in round 3 and kicked two goals. He had a successful first season but was unable to maintain a regular spot in the team and was delisted at the end of the 2022 season.
