Athol Tymms was a full-forward and wingman from Melbourne Grammar. He played three games in 1905 and kicked his only goal in his last game, Round 17 against Fitzroy.

He then played 60 games with University between 1908 and 1911 and in 1913, before retiring from football to concentrate on his medical career.

Tymms died on 21st November, 1949.
