Ariel Steinberg was raised in Mildura but played gridiron in Canada while living in Alberta as an exchange student. He also played Australian Rules with Edmonton's team while there.
On his return, he was selected by Essendon with pick 31 in the 2010 AFL Draft and began with the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL where he showed good form and the ability to kick goals.
He played no senior games in his first two years on Essendon's list and was demoted to the Rookie list in 2013.
He won R. A. Freeman Medal as the Best and Fairest Player in the VFL team in 2014 and finished third in 2015.
Steinberg made his senior debut in Round 21, 2014, against West Coast. Tall and strong, he was able to play as a third tall at either end of the ground and was a strong mark.
He was also a fine athlete, winning a 2015 pre-season intraclub mini triathlon, ahead of favourites Dyson Heppell and Patrick Ambrose.
However, senior games were hard to come by and Steinberg was delisted at the end of 2015.
Despite his delisting, he was still suspended for the 2016 season because of the Supplements saga. He had intended playing for Williamstown but was unable to due to the suspension.
