Bob Standfield was a rugged ruckman and defender who came from Leongatha where he played in 1936 and 1937. Prior to that he had played with Fish Creek 1934 and 1935.

He played 26 games with Essendon before his career was cut short by World War II.

He joined the Army in early 1940 and then played with Brunswick in 1941 before playing one game with Carlton in 1942 while on leave. He later transferred to the RAAF.

He later returned to Brunswick in 1945 and then was captain-coach of Murtoa in 1946.

His brother, Paul, played 42 games with Footscray from 1936 to 1940.

Bob Standfield was a manager of a bulk petrochemical terminal and he retired in 1981.

He died on 1st October, 1993.
