Mark Shea, known as "Hummer", was a star wingman who came from Fitzroy where he played 24 games from 1902 to 1904.
He played 53 games in a row from 1905 to 1908 and was in the League side against Ballarat in 1905 and 1907.
Shea played on the half-back flank in the losing Grand Final side of 1908, and was vice-captain of the Club from 1906 to 1908.
He joined the Club committee in 1907 while still playing, and became vice president in 1913. He served in that role until 1919.
As well as being a star footballer, Shea was also a top athlete and rowed in the Victorian crew that won the Australian title.
His younger brother, Paddy, was also a champion Essendon player.
Mark Shea died on 28th March, 1939.
