Stephen Robins, nicknamed "Harold" after the writer, was a solidly-built, competent centreman from Hopetoun. He played many good games with his strong, attacking style.
He only played two senior games in his debut year, but won the Reserves Most Consistent Player award.
He was a good mark and could deliver the ball deep into attack with long driving left-foot kicks.
His best year was in 1977 when he only missed two games and won the Most Improved Player award.
After leaving Essendon for family reasons, Robins joined Aberfeldie from 1981 to 1983 and was captain-coach in 1982 and 1983.
