Irishman Michael Quinn was Essendon’s first international recruit.
He came from County Longford, Ireland where he played Gaelic football. He was invited to Windy Hill with another teenage Irishman in August 2008 and trained for a fortnight before returning home. He returned to Essendon in November and was signed onto the rookie list after impressing coaching staff with his athleticism, skills and attitude.
He was elevated to the senior list in April 2009 to replace an injured Scott Gumbleton and made his debut in round 2 against Fremantle along with fellow debutant David Zaharakis.
Quinn played six games in 2009 and spent much of the year playing with Essendon’s VFL affiliate club, the Bendigo Bombers. While he played only two senior games in 2010 his improvement and consistency in the Bendigo Bombers led him to winning the Carter Medal as best and fairest player for Bendigo.
Michael Quinn was delisted in October 2011.
