Ray Powell was a half-forward and utility player from Essendon Stars.

He was dangerous around the goals and was Essendon's leading goalkicker in 1944 with 42 goals, including a caeer-high seven goals against South Melbourne in Round 18. He also won the Club's Valuable Services award in 1944 and the Most Serviceable Player award in 1945.

Powell joined Brunswick in 1947 where he played until 1949. He then coached Ascot Vale.

He retired in 1983 from his job as an Engineer with Australian Controls where he had worked for twenty eight years.

Ray Powell died on 7th July, 1993.
