Max Nixon was a talented half-forward who came to Essendon from Orbost where he had played from 1949 to 1955. He won the award for Best and Fairest in the Gippsland League in 1953.

He played six games on permit in early 1956, then returned home to his farm because he couldn't find the time to train and play. He played with Orbost for the remainder of 1956 then retired.

Nixon died on 6th January 2019.
