Don Nicolson was a blond rover from Colac where he had played from 1954.
He played five games for Essendon in early 1959 on permits before returning home because of business commitments.
Nicolson then continued with Colac until 1963 and won the award for Best and Fairest in the Hampden League in 1963. He also represented that League in the same year.
He became captain-coach of South Colac from 1964 to 1966. He later coached Colac's Under 18s and was president of the club from 1977 to 1979.
