Jay Nash started slowly before establishing himself as a senior team regular in 2008.
He made his debut in Round 16 against Collingwood as a late replacement for Andrew Welsh. He had a baptism of fire when in his first quarter his opponent was none other than Collingwood captain Nathan Buckley. He finished the match with 11 possessions in a respectable performance.
He progressed slowly playing in seven games in 2006, was restricted to 11 games in 2007 owing to a foot injury. 2008 was his best season when he played 21 out of 22 games.
Nash had restricted opportunities in 2009 due to ongoing foot injuries, playing only two senior games. He was traded at the end of the season to Port Adelaide with pick 16, in a four-club deal that saw Essendon obtain Hawthorn premiership forward Mark Williams plus pick 24 and 33.
He played eight games for Port Adelaide and was delisted at the end of the 2010 season. He played with his junior club, Nuriootpa Rovers Football Club, in 2014.
