Player Profile

David Myers was selected with pick 6 in the 2007 AFL National Draft. He was a talented midfielder and was an important contributor to the team. He showed great leadership potential but unfortunately his career was shortened due to injuries.

He won the VFL Trainers and Staff Best Clubman award in 2008, the Best Defensive Player in 2014, and, in recognition of his commitment to his career, the Most Improved Player award in 2018.

He was one of the 34 players and officials suspended due to the Supplements saga. Some commentators thought he would seek a transfer as a free agent but he chose to stay at Essendon and signed a contract for three years while suspended in 2016.

He became a Movember Ambassador in 2018 and, in a brave and frank interview, he revealed how injuries had affected his mental health. He also acknowledged that his suspension due to the Supplements saga may have also been a contributing factor.

Myers retired at the end of the 2019 season and returned to Western Australia where he regularly meets up with other former players living in WA.
