Irving Mosquito was selected at pick 38 in the 2018 AFL Draft from Gippsland Power. He had been selected to play for Vic Country in the Under 18 Championships but had to miss due to injury. He was a member of Hawthorn's Next Generation Academy but they chose not to match Essendon's selection.
He made his debut in Round 13, 2020, against Richmond and soon excited supporters by displaying the flair typical of Indigenous players. He played the next three games but ruptured his ACL in the match against Geelong and need a total knee reconstruction, meaning he would miss the entire following season.
He struggled with life in Melbourne so he returned to his home town, Halls Creek, to continue his rehabilitation. He told the Club that he did not wish to continue in the AFL competition so he was released from his contract at the end of the 2021 season. It was a great pity as he had great football skills.
Mosquito played with Hall's Creek after recovering from his injury.
