Laurie Moloney was a skilful player and a good kick who came from Leongatha in 1971. Prior to that he had been with Stony Creek.

He started on the wing before moving to the back pocket where he showed his best form. He won the Most Improved Player award in 1973.

Moloney was cleared to Oakleigh in mid-1976 and then in 1977 he became captain-coach of Mayne in Queensland. He played with Belconnen in the ACT from 1978 to 1980 and was captain-coach there in 1981 and 1982. He later became their Chairman of Selectors but had to resign when he accepted a three-year posting with the US Department of Defence.

On his return from the USA, he joined a software company in Brisbane as their Customer Services Manager, working from his home in Rosedale Qld. He also had support roles with the Brisbane Lions.
