Leo McInerney came to Essendon from West Melbourne.

He played at both full-forward and half-back. He played nine games in 1918 and the first three games of 1919 before joining Brunswick for the rest of the 1919 season.

McInerney played at Brunswick from 1919 to 1930 and was a member of their premiership side in 1925. He played 160 games and kicked 479 goals in his illustrious career with Brunswick, and was the Association's leading goalkicker in 1925 and 1929.

He died on 29th December, 1963.
