Player Profile

Barry Matthews was a rover and wingman who came from Pascoe Vale to the Under 19s in 1959. He was runner-up in the Best and Fairest award that year. It was no disgrace to come second to future champion, Jack Clarke.

He made his senior debut in Round 7, 1962, in a win against South Melbourne at the Lake Oval, but had trouble breaking in to the strong sides of that era. He played 12 games between 1962 and 1964 and eight of these were as a reserve.

He won the award for Best and Fairest in the Reserves in 1962.

Matthews transferred to Kyneton in 1965 and played there from 1965 to 1967. He represented the Bendigo League in 1967. He then played with Seaford in 1969.
