Edgar Masters came to Essendon from Brunswick.
His only game was in Round 12, 1911, in which Essendon beat Melbourne.
He was an engineer and surveyor and had served in the Australian Field Artillery for five years. He enlisted in July 1915 and was assigned as a 1st lieutenant to the 1st Field Artillery Brigade. He served at Gallipoli and on the Western Front where he was gassed in 1917. He was later twice wounded in action. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1917 and the citation reads: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. An ammunition dump was set on fire and the flames spread owing to the high wind. He at once went to the spot and, with some assistance, eventually succeeded in extinguishing the fire, which was threatening to cause an explosion. He showed great courage, and set an excellent example to his men."
He rose steadily through the ranks and left the Army as a major.
Masters died on 11th August, 1974.
