Arthur Mann debuted in the drawn game against St Kilda in Round 12, 1914. He played the following week in a losing game against Richmond.
He enlisted on the 19th August 1914, the first day that volunteers were called for when World War I broke out. His service number reflects this, being a low 858. He had been connected with the military as a bugler and trumpeter for about 10 years.
He was wounded twice in the Dardanelles campaign, and after further service in the Middle East, returned to England for artillery training. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in August 1917 and was sent to France where he was gassed. He returned to Melbourne in February 1919 and was finally discharged on the 5th April 1919.
He wasted no time in resuming his football career, playing in Round 3, 1919, in a loss to Fitzroy, on the 17th May, just five weeks later. It was his last game for the Club.
In all, his three game career spanned six years.
His 18 year-old son, Keith, was lost when HMAS Sydney was sunk on the 20 November 1941.
Arthur Mann died on 2nd January, 1949.
