Malcolm "Mac" MacRae was a centre half-forward from Ascot Vale Presbyterians.
He was a courageous player and a good kick. He started promisingly, playing 15 games and winning the Best First Year Player award in 1930, but could only manage a further four games in 1931.
He sought a transfer to Fitzroy in 1931 but the Club refused his clearance. He finally crossed to Fitzroy in 1932 where he played six games.
An article in The Herald (15 April 1932) noted that he was in better health than last season and "doing well on the track", but he played no further games for Essendon and transferred to Fitzroy later in 1932.
He died from illness on the 26th September, 1947, aged only 39.
