Frank Kelly was a talented wingman and centreman who had plenty of ability and was an extremely accurate pass.
He came from Melbourne where he played 31 games from 1934 to 1936. Before that, he had played with Beechworth and prior to that he played 34 games with Collingwood in 1930 and 1931 and in 1933.
Kelly played 30 games with Essendon between 1937 and early 1939.
He then became captain-coach of Port Melbourne in 1940 and 1941 and led them to their 1940 premiership win.
After this, he played 11 games with his fourth League club, St Kilda, from 1942 to 1944 before returning to coach Port Melbourne in 1945 and 1946. He then took over as captain-coach of North Yallourn for two years and non-playing coach for a year.
He died on 6th July, 1982.
