Player Profile

Graeme Johnston was a speedy half-forward who came from Wesley College to the Under 19s in 1961.

He was more serviceable than brilliant and, although he sometimes lacked the consistency to hold a regular senior spot, he played many fine games for Essendon.

Johnston was on the half-forward flank in both the 1962 and 1965 premiership teams.

He went to Preston in 1968 and was in their premiership side in that year. Following this, he coached Old Carey in 1970 and 1972, De La Salle Old Boys for two years, and then Old Ivanhoe Grammar in 1978.

Johnston later returned to Essendon as Chairman of Selectors from 1990 to 1991.
