Mark Jamar had played 155 games over 14 seasons with Melbourne before opting to retire at the end of the 2015 when he wasn't offered a new contract by the club.
Despite interest from both Port Adelaide and North Melbourne prior to the November draft, he chose to retire and was prepared to play with St Kevin's Old Boys in the Victorian Amateur Football League before the Bombers approached him.
Initially Jamar was set to become the Bombers' part-time ruck coach but was talked into playing one more season as one of the Club's ten "top-up" players, replacing those suspended as a result of the so-called Supplements saga.
He was an excellent, big-bodied tap ruckman, but only managed five games in the 2016 season with injuries limiting his appearances, however he provided valuable advice and support for the Club's young, developing rucks.
Jamar retired for good at the end of the 2016 season but remained at Essendon as a ruck coach.
