Sam Hunt gained some early publicity for playing a fine game on Tony Lockett in a pre-season game in 2001, but played the rest of the year with the Bendigo Bombers. He finally debuted in Round 20 in 2002 against Collingwood and has the distinction of kicking a goal with his first kick in League football.
He managed two more games in his debut year, including becoming a late replacement for James Hird in the Elimination Final. He played all his football after his debut year with the Bendigo Bombers and some thought he was unlucky to not have played more senior games.
Hunt played the last two games in 2005 but was delisted at the end of the season.
He was then picked up by Geelong in the 2006 Rookie Draft Selections but was delisted by Geelong at the end of the 2007 season without playing a senior game.
He joined WAFL club South Fremantle in 2008 and was runner-up in their best and fairest award that year. He was also one of their best players in their 2009 premiership victory.
