Paul Hills had been a successful young footballer, playing Teal Cup and being selected an Under 18 All-Australian in 1989. He also played with Essendon's Under 19s and won their Best in Finals award that year.
He made a stunning debut to League football when he was picked straight from the Under 19s to play in the Seniors in 1991, bypassing the Reserves completely.
He found his niche on the wing, with strong running play and good passing. He played consistent football in his first three years, culminating in being a member of the 1993 premiership side.
But there were many strong contenders for the wing positions at Essendon and this, combined with injuries and a loss of form saw him struggle to hold his place. He managed only one senior game in 1996 and was delisted at the end of the season.
