Player Profile

Peter Hickmott was a promising ruck rover and half-forward who came from Horsham in 1971. Prior to that he had played with Noradjuha from 1967 to 1970.

He won Best First Year Player award in both the Seniors and the Reserves in 1972 but never really lived up to this potential. He was also chosen in the Victorian Reserves team in 1972 and won the Seniors Best Utility Player in 1973.

Hickmott was often used as a tagger and kept many match winners out of the game. While he had difficulty keeping a regular senior spot he did win the Reserves Best and Fairest award in 1975 and was runner-up in 1977.

His best year was 1976 when he played all 21 games.

Hickmott retired at the end of the 1977 season but returned to the VFL in 1980 when he joined Footscray in 1980. He played 11 games that year before joining Tatura and playing there from 1981 to 1983. He then returned to Horsham for a season in 1985 and was appointed captain-coach of Horsham in 1988.

He was coach of Essendon's Under 19s team in 1991 and the Annual Report that year noted that there was no role for him next year due to the demise of the Under 19s competition.

Geelong/Carlton player and one-time Essendon assistant coach, Adrian Hickmott, is Peter's nephew.
