Player Profile

Vernon Hazewinkel, known as Ern Hazel, was a half-forward and defender who was originally from Coburg but who came to Essendon after three games with St Kilda in 1909-1910 and four with Melbourne in 1910.

He was fortunate to be included in the 1911 premiership team in the back pocket when Allan Belcher was forced out through injury.

Hazel's only other game for Essendon was in Round 8, 1912, in an 11 point away loss to St Kilda. He was then cleared to Brighton.

He was amateur welterweight champion of Victoria in 1916.

Hazel died on 18th April, 1967.
