Player Profile

Dick Gosling was a tall, thin forward who came from St John's in the Essendon District League. He played five games in 1926 and 1927.

He was given six months to live after an operation to mend a nose injury in 1928 went wrong, but he proved the doctors wrong when he made a full recovery and lived to 98. The Committee launched an appeal for him because he was in very bad health and raised just over £100. One of the events held was a picture night at the New Essendon Theatre.

Gosling retired in 1973 after working for Carter's Grocery business.

He died on 22nd February, 1999.
