Player Profile

Jonathan Giles was was a tall and solid ruckman who was a capable goalkicker. He was also

something of a football journeyman, being recruited by four AFL clubs and playing for three of them in three different states.

He was originally from South Australia where he was on Port Adelaide's list from 2006 to 2009 but didn't play a senior game. During his time on Port Adelaide's list he won two premierships with Central Districts (in 2008 and 2009) and won Sturt's Best and Fairest Player award in 2010.

He was traded to expansion club Greater Western Sydney in 2012 and played 51 games for that club over three seasons, becoming the first GWS player to reach 50 games.

He was then traded to Essendon for pick 53 in 2015 and played 15 consecutive games in the VFL before making his senior debut in the Round 18 loss to the Western Bulldogs. He played the next two games before incurring a knee injury which ended his season.

His next trade was to the West Coast Eagles for the 2016 season where he played nine games and kicked three goals. He was leading goal kicker for East Perth in 2016, while on the West Coast's list.

He retired from the AFL at the end of the 2017 season due to a degenerative knee condition, although he managed 17 games for Aspley (NEAFL) in 2018.
