FRASER, Mark

In 1995 Mark Fraser made the move that many thought should have occurred many years earlier when he moved to Essendon from Collingwood. His father was Essendon champion, Ken Fraser.

When he finally made the move to Essendon some supporters may have cringed at the thought of an ex-Collingwood player playing for Essendon, but thankfully he was welcomed with open arms. It was really the recruiting coup of the year for Essendon (apart from picking up Matthew Lloyd in the Under 16 draft) because he had been playing very good football on the wing for Collingwood when he left.

Fraser had played 45 games and kicked 23 goals for Collingwood before joining Essendon.

He played 19 games in the 1999 season, playing some excellent football. His best games for the season were the first and last games of the year.

Fraser played only four games in 2000 and was delisted at the end of the year.

He was targeted by the AFL as a candidate for their Player to Umpire Acceleration program and umpired his first game in 2005 but was forced into retirement by a hip injury after umpiring five senior games.

His brother, Darren, played for Collingwood Under 19s, including the preliminary final (ironically against Essendon) before crossing to Essendon, but played no senior games.
