Peter Francis was a half-back flanker who had played at three League clubs before arriving at Windy Hill.

Francis played 52 games for Richmond from 1984 to 1986 immediately before joining Essendon. Prior to that he had played 41 games with Fitzroy from 1981 to 1983 and, earlier, 47 games at Carlton from 1979 to 1981.

He originally played with Heathcote in 1979. Although in the twilight of his career when he joined Essendon, he acquitted himself well.

His League games tally was 159 games.

After his retirement, he became playing coach at Box Hill (VFA) from 1989 to 1990. In 1991, he became Under 19s coach at St Kilda, then Reserves coach from 1991 to 1994. He then began a coaching and management career with Gippsland Power in the TAC Under 17 competition.

Away from football, he worked in the banking industry and lived in Warragul.
