A centre half-forward, Robert Fox came from Thornton where he played in 1954 and prior to that with Yarck.
His early form had the stamp of a potential champion on it and he won Essendon's Best First Year Player award in 1955.
However Fox had difficulty adjusting to city life and, as a result, his stay at Essendon was short. In his final year in 1957 he was centre half-forward in the losing Grand Final team.
In 1958 he joined Alexandra for a season before retiring. He later made a comeback to play with Katunga from 1967 to 1969.
