Grant Fowler was a competent rover who came from Fitzroy where he played 35 games from 1976 to 1979. Prior to that he played with Trinity Grammar.

Fowler made his debut for Essendon in Round 7, 1980 against Geelong and finished that season with 16 games. He played all 22 games in 1981 kicking 18 goals and playing in Essendon's night premiership, where he kicked two goals in Essendon's win over Carlton.

He played 18 games in 1982 and only seven in 1983.

Fowler was a regular selection as a rover, an honest player and handy around goals. He went into semi-retirement because of work commitments during 1983.

In mid-1983, Fowler was cleared to Hawthorn where he played two games between 1983 and 1984.
