Robert Forster-Knight was recruited with pick 72 in the 1999 National Draft, after winning State Honours in the 1999 Australian International Under17 team against Ireland.He was also named in the Murray Bushrangers' 1990s Team of the Decade.
He made his debut in Round 4, 2001, against Sydney and played nine games for the season and followed up with 18 games in 2002. A highly disciplined player Forster-Knight performed some excellent defensive jobs both in the back half and in the midfield.
He only managed four senior games in 2003, he was unable to push into the strong senior midfield.
Forster-Knight was delisted by Essendon at the end of 2003 and was drafted by Port Adelaide but played no senior games there and was delisted at the end of the 2005 season.
He returned to Essendon in 2011 as a recruiting officer and was promoted to National Recruiting Manager in 2018.
