A centreman, Ashley Foley came to Essendon after playing 15 games with Geelong between 1936 and 1938. Prior to that he had played at Mooroopna.
While at Geelong, Foley was runner-up in the 1938 Gardiner Medal for Best and Fairest in the League Seconds.
He played seven games with Essendon in 1939 before his career was interrupted by war service as a Flying Officer with the RAAF's Squadron in the Middle East and Pacific during World War II.
On his return, he played with Yarraville in 1946.
Ashley retired from his job after twenty years as a supervisor with Australian Synthetic Rubber in 1980.
He died on 20th February, 2005.
