Player Profile

Peter Filandia was a speedy rover from local club, Doutta Stars, who could also play in the forward line. At his time at Essendon he kicked 14 goals in 13 matches.

In 1992, he polled 23 Gardiner Medal votes (as Best and Fairest in the AFL Reserves) but lost to Mick Dwyer (St Kilda) because he had been suspended during the season; Dwyer only polled 16 votes. He was also a member of the Reserves premiership team that year.

He played no senior games in 1993 and was selected by the Sydney Swans with their pick 6 in the 1994 Pre-season draft. He played 70 games there.

His career was severely interrupted by two ACL injuries and he retired at the end of 2000 and was appointed captain of VFL club, Port Melbourne.
