Bill Earle was fast and had plenty of ability when he came to Essendon after a clearance dispute with Melbourne.

He played nine games with Melbourne in 1932 and prior to that had played with Stawell.

He played in the centre and on the wing and when he left Essendon he returned to Stawell where he later ran a hotel.

His son, also Bill, represented Australia as a sprinter in the 1964 Olympic Games.

He died on 12th April, 1983.
