Player Profile

Bill Duckworth was a tough and aggressive defender who came from West Perth where he played in 1980 and 1981.

He could play anywhere in defence and also also performed well on the forward line when required.

Duckworth played in both the back pocket and then in the forward line when he won the Norm Smith Medal for being best on ground in the thrilling come-from-behind win over Hawthorn in the 1984 Grand Final. He kicked two goals that day, in his best-on-ground performance. It was also the Club's first premiership win since 1965.

Duckworth then played on the half-back flank in the 1985 premiership side. He was full-back in the 1984 night premiership win as well.

He played state of origin for Western Australia in 1987.

His brother, John, played 58 games for Fitzroy (1970, 1974-1976) and later won the Magarey Medal when playing with Central District in South Australia.

Duckworth returned to West Perth after retiring from the AFL and eventually returning to his farm at Dudinin.
