Player Profile

Anthony Daniher is one of four Daniher brothers to play for Essendon.

He was recruited from the Sydney Swans where he had already played 115 games between 1981 and 1986. Prior to that he had played with his brothers for Ungarie in New South Wales.

Daniher joined Essendon to be with his brothers Terry, Neale and Chris. His first year at Essendon was ruined when he missed most of the season with a broken ankle, but he established himself as one of the best full-backs in the competition.

In the final round of 1990 (against St Kilda), Anthony and his three brothers made League history when all four played together in a game. It is still the only time four brothers have played in a League game. They also played together on 22 May 1990 in a State of Origin match for New South Wales versus Victoria.

Daniher was a member of the All-Australian side in 1991, the year he played his 200th League game.

He retired in 1994.

Two of his sons have continued the Daniher dynasty at Essendon. Darcy's career was ruined by injury and he only managed six games between 2008 and 2009, but his younger brother, Joe, made an immediate impact, winning the Club's Best First Year Player in 2014 and the Crichton Medal in 2017 before requesting a trade to Brisbane in 2021.
