Eric Dalton was a ruck-rover type who joined Essendon from Footscray Seconds. Prior to that he had played three games with Collingwood in 1932.

He started conspicuously with Essendon kicking four goals in his first game, then played four more in 1934 before joining Ballarat Imperials where he won premierships in 1935 and 1936.

He was also a successful cyclist, winning many country races.
