Gary Crouch was a rover from University Blacks where he had started in 1966. Prior to that he had played with St Andrews in the Coburg and Northern District League.

He played nine games in 1969 and 1970, and five of these were as a reserve. He won the Reserves Most Serviceable Player award in 1969.

He joined Rochester in 1971 before going to Subiaco in Western Australia from 1972 to 1975. He was a member of their premiership side in 1973.

In 1976 he played with South Bendigo and then with Sandhurst from 1977 to 1983 and he was captain-coach there in 1982. He also represented the Bendigo League from 1977 to 1981. He was a Bendigo League selector from 1985 to 1987.
