Player Profile

Steve Copping was a talented full-forward who came from Glenelg in South Australia where he played from 1974 to 1981.

Although he was not tall, he had extremely long arms which enabled him to take a strong mark.

Copping was Essendon's second top goalkicker in 1983 and third top in 1982. He kicked seven goals in a game in 1982 as well as four in the Elimination Final in that year which is the equal most goals kicked by an Essendon player in that final.

He won Essendon Best First Year Player award in 1982 and also starred for South Australia in the State of Origin game in that year.

In 1983, he was on the interchange bench in the losing Grand Final team.

Copping returned to Glenelg in mid-1984, and played there until 1986, giving him a total of 245 games with that club.
