Jim Collins was a centreman who came from South Ballarat and prior to that Yarraville Juniors. He was captain-coach of Yarraville (VFA) in 1918-1919.
He made his debut in Round 6, 1919, against Geelong and played all remaining games that year. But he had difficulty holding a permanent spot in subsequent seasons.
He then became captain-coach of South Ballarat in 1922 and 1923 and Kingsville from 1924 to 1926.
He had three sons - Alan, Jack and Robert - who all played for Footscray. Jack became a Footscray champion.
Jim Collins died on 13th October, 1990
