Josh Begley was drafted at choice 31 in the 2016 National Draft from the Eastern Ranges. A forward/midfielder, he made his debut in round 22 of the 2017 season in a win over Gold Coast. He retained his position for the remainder of the season including the losing Elimination Final against the Sydney Swans.

In 2019, he injured his knee which required a total reconstruction.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 clubs were required to live in "bubbles". Essendon was confined on the Gold Coast and Begley struggled with the isolation and his injury.

He returned for one game in 2020 but was unable to maintain a regular spot in the team and was delisted at the end of the season. He joined VFL club Frankston in 2021.
