Bert Armstrong was a more than competent full-forward who came to Essendon from North Melbourne (VFA). He also played for Brighton in the VFA.
He was at his best in bad conditions and was usually less successful in fine conditions.
Nevertheless, he was often amongst the goals and he topped Essendon's goalkicking in 1910 with 30 goals, 10 more than his nearest team-mate. He was also the Club's equal second highest goalkicker in 1911 with 25 goals.
Armstrong kicked six goals in games in both 1910 and 1911 but his career was affected by sciatica problems that reduced him to six games in 1912 and forced him out in 1913.
He played four games early in 1914 then joined Essendon 'A' later in the year.
His brother, Lou, also played for Essendon (102 games, 1908-1914).
Bert Armstrong died on 15th August, 1969.
