ANTROBUS, Tony

Tony "the Ant" Antrobus was a fiery rover who came to Essendon with a great reputation from North Adelaide. He had won the Magarey Medal for the Best and Fairest in South Australia in 1983 and played in the South Australian State side.

He debuted in Round 2, 1987, and showed his ability with a best on ground performance in a night game but missed the rest of the 1987 season through suspension and then a serious back injury. He continued to be troubled with persistent niggling injuries didn't play a senior game in 1988. The following year was his best for the Club, playing 13 games, but only managed eight in 1990 and was delisted at the end of the year.

He was picked up by St Kilda in the Pre-season Draft and he played six games and kicked five goals in 1991.

Antrobus decided to return to Adelaide in 1992 and played one more year with North Adelaide. He was named in the forward pocket in their "Team of the Century" and on the 24th October 2000, he was awarded theĀ Australian Sports MedalĀ for being a "recipient of the highest individual honour in South Australian Football".
