Ian Anderson was a ruckman and forward who came from Miga Lake to the U19s in 1965 and played 27 games in three senior seasons.
He kicked seven goals in a game in the 1968 season opener against Hawthorn, leading Essendon to a 73-point win, but his career was interrupted when he was inducted into the Army for National Service. He served with the infantry in Vietnam, missing the 1969 and 1970 seasons. He returned in 1971 to play six more games.
Anderson had been a member of the Reserves premiership team in 1968.
His most memorable game was against Hawthorn in round 1, 1968. He was a last minute replacement for an injured Neil Evans and kicked 7.3. Champion Hawthorn full-forward, Peter Hudson, kicked 10.1, but Essendon had a comfortable win, 26.16.172 to 15.9.99.
He then went to West Perth from 1972 to mid-1974 and represented Western Australia in the 1972 Carnival. He spent the rest of 1974 with Port Hedland Rovers.
Anderson returned to Miga Lake as captain-coach in 1976 and then played with Casterton in 1977 and 1978.
