Patrick "Patty" Ambrose had played with Essendon's VFL team in 2013 and was recruited to the Club with pick 26 in the 2014 AFL Rookie Draft. He was later elevated to the senior list when Alex Browne was delisted.
Patrick was regarded as a great athlete due to his speed, power and endurance. He started as a forward player but later went to the back-line and more than held his own against highly regarded opposition forward line players.
He made his debut in Round 1 with a win against North Melbourne and had four consistent seasons before dropping back to only seven in 2018. He bounced back in 2019 but suffered a serious injury, causing him to miss all of the 2020 season.
He spent most of the 2021 season in the VFL team and was their leading goalkicker. He finished eighth in the VFL team best and fairest.
He won the Most Improved Player award in 2016 and his courage and commitment to the team was recognised by his winning two Adam Ramanauskas Most Courageous Player award in 2017 and 2019. He finished seventh in the Best and Fairest award in 2019.
He retired at the end of the 2021 season. His brother, Murphy, played in Essendon's VFL team in 2013 and 2014.
