David Flood played a couple of Under 19s games in 1985 and also represented Victoria in the Teal Cup that same year. He was an Under 17 All-Australian in 1986.

He played a couple of finals games in 1993 but was not part of the premiership win over Carlton that year.
Flood was awarded life membership of the Club in 1995.
In 1999 he was appointed part time Essendon Football Club Development/Welfare Coordinator. This became a fulltime postion in 2000.
He left the Club at the end of 2003 to accept the senior coaching job at Coburg, He was coach for two seasons and then coached the Calder Cannons to the 2007 TAC Cup premiership. In 2008 he was appointed as a development coach at Hawthorn.
